The Who is a highly influential rock trio formed in 1964 in London, England. Their best-known lineup consisted of singer Roger Daltrey, guitarist, and singer Pete Townshend, drummer Keith Moon, and bassist John Entwistle. In total, they have sold more than 100 million records throughout the world, while their singles “My Generation” and “The Kids Are Alright” were all-time chart-toppers. They also acquired fame by being the first musicians to consciously trash their instruments in live performances, and by spearheading the mod youth movement. Their ascent to fame was marked by several UK singles like “I Can’t Explain”, and performances in the United States high profile late 60’s festivals like Monterey and Woodstock 1969. Critically and commercially acclaimed albums include 1969’s rock opera “Tommy”, 1971’s “Who’s Next” and 1974’s “Quadrophenia”. After five more studio albums in 1982, the group split, but kept on touring and also made five more commemorative albums in the next decades.
