Don McLean Bio
Don McLean was born in New Rochelle, New York on October 2, 1945. The song America Pie from his 1971 album climbed on top of the charts. The song was eight minutes and 26 seconds, the longest song to make it to the Billboard Hot 100. In 1995, American Pie was inducted in the Grammy Hall of Fame. McLean was also inducted in the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2004. In 2012, he performed American Pie during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. He also received the Folk Music Lifetime Achievement Award from BBC.
His follow-up “Vincent,” an ode to Vincent Van Gogh, also became a hit. Some of his most popular hits include “And I Love You So,” “Castles in the Air,” and “Crying.”
Don McLean also served as Drake‘s co-writer in “Doing It Wrong.”
