Throwing Muses is a rock band from Newport, Rhode Island, United States. The musical group was formed in 1981 and was extensively involved in recording and touring until 1997, when the members decided to pursue other projects. Members include vocalist/guitarist Kristin Hersh, bassist Bernard Georges, and drummer David Narcizo. Other members who left the group are keyboardist/guitarist Tanya Donelly, bassist Elaine Admendes and bassist Leslie Langston.
The band released its first album in 1986 under the British label “4AD.” This was followed by a second album, titled “House Tornado,” in 1987. The band toured the UK to promote the album with the support of another band called Pixies. The third album, titled “Hunkpapa,” was released in 1989. Tanya Donelly left the group in 1991, leaving the Throwing Muses to continue as a trio. The band continued working together, releasing the fifth and sixth albums of the group. The band was disbanded in 1997 before coming together again in 2003, with Tanya Donelly returning to provide backing vocals.
