Timi Dakolo is a Nigerian singer and songwriter who was born on January 20th 1981 in Accra, Ghana to a Nigerian father and Ghanaian mother. Losing his mother when he was 13, he was raised by his grandmother Ateni Dakolo in Port Harcourt. His primary and secondary education was in Port Harcourt while he studied for a degree in Communications from the University of Port Harcourt.
Timi got his start singing in church. By 2003 he was a founding member of the group Purple Love which disbanded two years later. He later won a local talent hunt contest G.E FACTO held in Port Harcourt around that time. In 2006 he auditioned for Idols West Africa in Calabar. Three years later he dropped his debut single, in October (2009). His hit song There’s a Cry appeared in 2011 with its music video. His other well-known tracks include Iyawo Mi, Love Song, Great Nation, Send Down the Rain, I Love You, Love Song and Heaven Please (that featured rapper MI).
Timi is well-known as one of the judges on The Voice Nigeria.
