Tommy Mottola, whose birth name is Thomas Daniel Mottola Jr., is an American music executive who was born on July 14, 1949, in the Bronx, New York. Ever since he was a child, he wanted to be a part of the music world and worked towards his dream until he made a name for himself in the industry. He began as the singer of The Exotics, an R&B band. In 1970, he met a duo called Hall & Oates, and Mottola convinced them to fire their manager so they could sign with him. In 1975, he created his own record label. His label was eventually bought by Sony Music Entertainment, which led Mottola to become the President of the United States division of Sony Music. He nurtured artists that became widely known around the world, such as Shakira, Gloria Estefan, Mariah Carey, Marc Anthony, Ricky Martin, Dixie Chicks, Jennifer Lopez, and Celine Dion.
