Toni Michele Braxton is a Grammy winning American singer/songwriter, pianist, actress and record producer. Toni began her singing career with her sisters Traci, Trina, Tamar and Towanda and performed as The Braxtons around the 1980s. Their first single, ‘Good Life’ garnered the attention of producer and artist LA Reid and Babyface Edmonds. The two pulled Toni from the band and recruited her to record a song originally for Anita Baker titled ‘Love Shoulda Brought You Home’ along with another single, ‘Give U My Heart’ with Babyface. Hearing Toni’s vocal talent, she was signed to their label record, LaFace Records and released her solo album, ‘Toni Braxton’ in 1990. The debut of her self titled album landed at number 1 on the US Billboard 200. Toni received several awards for her album such as three American Music Awards and three Grammy Awards once of which was Best New Artist. Along with her awards, Toni’s album was certified 8 times platinum. Toni released her second and most popular album, ‘Secrets’ with the production help of R. Kelly, Tony Rich and David Foster in 1996. The album contained her biggest hits such as ‘You’re Makin’ Me High’ which landed at the number one position on the Hot 100 Singles Chart. ‘Un-break My Heart’ was her most successful hit, also landing at number one and stayed on its peak position for 11 consecutive weeks and 42 weeks in total on the charts. Due to some friction Toni faced with LaFace records, Toni returned with her third album four years later in 2000 titled ‘The Heat’ which led to Toni winning another Grammy for Best Female R&B vocal. She released ‘More Than A Woman’ in 2002 followed by ‘Libra’ in 2005. Two more albums came in 2010 titled ‘Pulse’ and ‘Sex and Cigarettes’ in 2018.
