Tony Allen Bio

Anthony "Tony" Allen, nicknamed The Grindfather, is a retired NBA player born on January 11, 1982, in Chicago, Illinois, USA. He attended Crane High School in Chicago. He spent his freshman year at Butler County Community College, where he made the Second Team All-Jayhawk West Conference and the Jayhawk West Freshman of the Year.

Tony spent his sophomore year with Wabash Valley College, leading the team to a fourth-place finish at the NJCAA Championships. He made the Second Team All-Region XXIV. He transferred to Oklahoma State University for his junior season, earning the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year honors. Tony led the Cowboys to the 2004 NCAA Final Four. He was named Big 12 Player of the Year and earned an Honorable Mention All-America by the Associated Press.

The Boston Celtics selected him as the 25th overall pick in the first round of the 2004 NBA Draft. He won the NBA Championship with the Boston Celtics in 2008. He has played for the Memphis Grizzlies and New Orleans Pelicans. His accolades include NBA All-Defensive First Team (2012, 2013, 2015), NBA All-Defensive Second Team (2011, 2016, 2017), and Big 12 Tournament MVP (2004)
