Tony Jaa is an actor, martial artist, martial arts choreographer, stunt man and director. He was born on February 5, 1976, in Surin, Thailand, as Panom Yeerum. Later, he changed his name to Tatchakorn Yeerum, though he is mostly known by his nicknames Tony Jaa in the U.S. and Jaa Panom in Thailand. Jaa made his debut working as a stuntman for the company of doubles “Muay Thai Stunt” where he performed over 14 years. One of his early breakthroughs came as a double for Sammo Hung during a commercial for an energy drink, which earned him recognition. Jaa performed as a stunt in the movie “Panna Rittikrai”, and later he went on doubling for Robin Shou and James Remar in “Mortal Kombat: Annihilation” in 1997. His demo reel impressed director Prachya Pinkaew, who made the film “Ong-Bak: The Thai Warrior” (2003) for him. Jaa has starred in several international films, one among them is “Fast and Furious 7” (2015).
