Tony Jeffries is a former professional boxer born on 2nd March 1985 in England. He is widely known for winning a bronze medal in the 2008 Summer Olympics. He started his boxing career at the age of 10, following in the footsteps of his uncle William Young “Billy” Bruce, who was a boxer himself. He later joined the Sunderland Amateur Boxing Club. He went on to win the School Boys’ Championships and the European Cadets (U17) in 1999 and 2001.
He also competed at the 2005 Commonwealth Championships but lost to Shawn Cox in the finals. He took part in the 2006 Commonwealth Games, this time losing to Kenny Anderson in the quarterfinals. He also competed in the 2007 World Amateur Boxing Championships, defeating Ramazan Magomedov, Daniel Kooij, and Christopher Down in the semifinals, but lost to Yerkebuian Shynaliyev in the quarterfinals. He retired from professional boxing in September 2012.
