Too Short Bio

Rapper and producer Too Short was born Todd Anthony Shaw on April 28, 1966 in Los Angeles, California. In the 80s, his family moved to Oakland and he began producing custom songs for people with his neighbor, Freddie B. He released his first album, Don’t Stop Rappin’ in 1983 and two years later formed the label Dangerous Music which he used to distribute both his own music and that of The Dangerous Crew which he formed along with Ant Banks and Shorty B. In 1989, he released the album Life Is . . . . Too Short, after which much of his work consisted of collaborations with other artists including Tupac Shakur and Scarface. He was featured on the song “The World is Filled. . . .” on the Notorious B.I.G album Life After Death, which introduced him to a wider audience.

In 1999, Too Short released the album Can’t Stay Away which featured guest appearances from 8Ball & MJG, Jay-Z, Jermaine Dupri, Sean Combs, E-40, Daz Dillinger, Lil’ Jon, Soopafly, Scarface and B-Legit. His follow-up albums You Nasty (2000) Chase the Cat (2001), What’s My Favorite Word? (2002) and Married to the Game (2003) did not do as well as his previous releases yet in 2004, his song “The Ghetto” was featured in the popular video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and his 2006 album Blow the Whistle reached Number 14 on the Billboard 200 Chart.

In 2011, Too Short was featured on Wiz Khalifa’s song “On My Level” and also contributed to Snoop Dogg’s song “Take U Home” and the 50 Cent song “First Date.” Too Short has created controversy with his involvement in the adult film industry yet he has also served as a mentor for at-risk youth for several years. In 2013, he worked with Lady Gaga on the song “Jewels & Drugs” along with T.I. and Twista.
