The smooth singer-songwriter Trey Songz was born Tremaine Aldon Neverson in Petersburg, Virginia, on November 28, 1984. He spent a good portion of his youth traveling the country since his stepfather was in the Army, yet when he returned to Petersburg, he realized he wanted to pursue a career in singing. In 1998, Trey Songz wowed a full audience at a local talent show, and from then on, there was no doubt surrounding his talent. After graduating from high school, Songz moved to New Jersey to work with music producer Troy Taylor. In 2005 through Atlantic Records, Trey Songz released his debut album I Gotta Make It, which sold close to 400,000 copies and shot to #20 on the Billboard charts.
2007 saw the release of his sophomore album Trey Day, which went to #11 on the Billboard charts, as did his single off the album “Can’t Help But Wait”. He was also nominated for Best R&B Male Vocal Performance at the Grammy Awards. Then, in 2009, Trey Songz released his third album Ready with a completely new style; instead of the soulful music he was known for, he switched to more club-friendly beats and gained enormous success. The album went to #3 on the Billboard charts, earning him a nomination for Best Contemporary R&B Album at the Grammy Awards and a BET Award for Best Male R&B Artist in 2010.
