Trombone Shorty, born Troy Andrews on January 2, 1986 in New Orleans, Louisiana, is an American musician and actor. Coming from a family of talented musicians, he started his musical journey at a very young age and was already playing professionally at five. He picked trombone to be his primary instrument, but he is adept at playing the trumpet and drums as well. His first solo record, Swingin’ Gate, was released in 2002 and it was highly acclaimed by jazz critics. He has released 10 albums since then: Live at New Orleans Jazz Fest (2004), The End of the Beginning and Orleans & Claiborne (2005), Jazzfest Live 2006 (2006), Live at Jazz Fest 2007 and Live at Jazz Fest 2008 (2008), Backatown (2010), For True (2011), Say That to Say This (2013), and Parking Lot Symphony (2017). Andrews has won a GRAMMY for Best Contemporary Jazz Album for Backatown.
