Unknown Mortal Orchestra is an Australian psychedelic rock band. They were founded in Auckland, New Zealand in 2010, but they are based in Portland, Oregon. The band consists of Ruben Nielson, the singer, songwriter, and guitarist, bassist Jake Portrait and drummer Kody Nielson. Their debut self titled album was released in 2011 on Fat Possum Records. In 2012, the band won the Taite Music Prize for their album. The same year, Ruben Nielson won the title of Best Male Artist at the 47th annual Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards. The band’s second album “II” was released in 2013 and it received critical acclaim, besides earning Best Alternative Album at the New Zealand Music Awards. The band embarked on a world tour alongside opener Foxygen, playing in Australia, New Zealand, North America and Europe. In 2013 the band made their American television debut performing on “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon”. In 2015 they released their third album “Multi-Love”, and three years later they released their fourth album “Sex & Food”. The BBC named that last album one of the best albums released in 2018.
