VaShawn Mitchell is an American gospel singer and songwriter. He was born on the 19th of November, 1976, in Harvey, Illinois, U.S. In 1996, he started his professional career when he was hired by Bishop Larry Trotter as the Minister of Music at Chicago's Sweet Holy Spirit Church. While working there, Mitchell produced his first solo project “So Satisfied”. His breakthrough composition “Nobody Greater” became a hit, and it spent 9 weeks on Billboard’s Gospel song charts, besides earning Mitchell the nomination at the Grammy Awards for Best Gospel Performance. He was also nominated that same year for Best Contemporary R&B Gospel for his album “Triumphant”. Mitchell started the Norman Youth and Arts Foundation in 2012. It sponsors summer youth camps for the arts and music in Chicago. In 2016 Mitchell was hired as the General Overseer of Music & Worship Arts of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Nashville, Tennessee.
