Village People Bio

Village People is a disco, soul, funk, rock, and RnB band formed in 1977 in Greenwich Village, New York City, USA. The band comprises Victor Willis (Cop/Admiral), Isaac Lopez (Native American), James Lee (GI), Jeffrey James Lippold (Leather man), James Kwong (Construction worker), and Nicholas Manelick (Cowboy). They are associated with RCA, Casablanca, Mercury, Phonogram, Polydor, Ariola, Polygram, Black Scorpio, BMG, Universal, and Sony.

Village People have appeared on One Night At McCool's (Songs From The Motion Picture), Was nicht passt, wird passend gemacht (Music Inspired By the Film), My Agenda (Deluxe), Pride 2021: The Ultimate Pride Hits, and Now That's What I Call 80s Pop. Their discography includes Can't Stop the Music (1980), Renaissance (1981), Fox on the Box (1982), Sex Over the Phone (1985), and A Village People Christmas (2018).

They released their self-titled debut album in 1977, and Macho Man followed it in 1978. Their third album, Cruisin' (1978), peaked at number three on the US charts, with the singles In The Navy and Y.M.C.A. becoming massive disco anthems.
