Ahmed Ali (born September 12, 1998 in Alexandria, Egypt), popularly known as Wegz, is an Egyptian actor and rapper most renowned for his creative trap music that has dominated the Middle East since 2017. His songs effectively merged trap, mumble rap, electro shaabi, and other Egyptian genres.
Prior to his music career, Wegz held a position at a telecommunication company. After gaining some success, he quit his job to dedicate his time entirely to creating music and collaborating with other artists. He became famous in Egypt and the Middle East after releasing his song "Dorak Gay" on March 11, 2020, The track surpassed 24 million views on YouTube in 2 months.
Growing up, Wegz was influenced by various artists including Mobb Deep, Young Thug, Asap Rocky, and Justin Bieber. His songs appeal to Egyptian youth, and his performances symbolize a courageous youthful culture anxious to be set free, and he has been making revolutionary trap music constantly since 2017. In December 2020, Wegz launched his official clothing line in collaboration with Egyptian fashion label Ohanna.
