Westlife Bio

Westlife is an Irish pop band, formed in 1998 in Dublin, Ireland. The band was composed by Shane Filan, Kian Egan, and Mark Feehily, Nicky Byrne and Brian McFadden and they were originally signed by Simon Cowell in the UK, Clive Davis in the US and managed by Louis Walsh and Sonny Takhar. Their first single “Flying Without Wings” topped No. 1 in the UK Charts in 1999, and one year later their songs “Season in the Sun” and “Swear it Again” replicated that accomplishment topping No. 1 as well. The band gained recognition over their ballads and catchy pop songs and their first seven singles enter the UK Charts at No.1. Overall, Westlife has sold over 55 million records worldwide, and while they weren’t so popular in the US, in Europe they were one of the most successful pop bands of the nineties. They have had 14 No.1 singles, only behind Elvis Presley and The Beatles, as well as 33 No.1 albums worldwide. Westlife has also released six platinum-selling records in the UK. In 2004, Brian McFadden parted way from the group and in 2011 the group officially split.
