American deathcore band Whitechapel originally formed in 2006 as the brainchild of Knoxville musicians Phil Bozeman, Brandon Cagle, and Ben Savage. The trio later brought in guitarist Alex Wade, bassist Gabe Crisp, and drummer Derek Martin. Their lineup complete, they were signed to Siege of Amida Records in 2007, which is located in the UK, as well as Candlelight Records in North America. Shortly after, Martin left the band and was replaced by Kevin Lane just in time for their debut album release The Somatic Defilement in June 2007. After signing with Metal Blade Records the next year, Whitechapel released their sophomore album This is Exile, which went to the #118 slot on the Billboard Top 200. The group completed a series of tours with various other groups, and later released their third album A New Era of Corruption, which debuted at #43 on the Billboard 200 and sold more than 10,000 copies in its first week.
Whitechapel would go on to release their albums Whitechapel in 2012 as well as Our Endless War in 2014, the latter of which peaked at the #1 spot on the US Hard Rock Chart. The band also performed at the 2012 Mayhem Festival and embarked on a European tour shortly after the release of their 2012 album.
