Wladimir Klitschko was born in Semipalatinsk, Kazakhstan on March 25, 1976. He started as an amateur boxer. He won the gold medal in super heavyweight in the Atlanta Olympic Games in 1996. He had a record of 134-6 as an amateur.
Klitschko started his professional boxing career in 1997. From 2005 to 2011, he won four championship belts.
In 1998, he won the vacant WBC International heavyweight title. The next year, he won the vacant WBA Inter-Continental heavyweight title and the vacant European heavyweight title. In 2000, he won the WBC International heavyweight title and the WBO heavyweight title. In 2005, he won the WBC–NABF and vacant WBO–NABO heavyweight titles. The next year, he won both the IBF and the IBO heavyweight titles.
He announced his retirement in 2017.
