Wolves in the Throne Room is a symphonic black metal band whose stated goal is “to channel energies of the Pacific Northwest’s landscape” with their music. They play like a taste of Scandinavia in Cascadia, ideal for “Game of Thrones” binges or setting the atmosphere for a D&D campaign. Wolves in the Throne Room takes itself so seriously that the average track by them lasts fifteen minutes, knocking them out of the possibility of a charting single.
They have toured, occasionally, but they spend most of their time recording. They do sell albums, but they tend to be a niche interest, more in the ambient nature sounds CD rack than an actual band. As the band’s frontman is quoted: “If you listen to Black Metal, but you don’t know what phase the moon is in, or what wild flowers are blooming than you have failed.” That’s a pretty high standard.
