Wynton Marsalis is a jazz musician, composer and bandleader. Wynton was born in New Orleans, US, the 18th October, 1961. He started playing music very young and at age eight he performed for the first time in the Fairview Baptist Church band led by Danny Barker, and several years later, at age fourteen he performed with the New Orleans Philharmonic. Later, in 1979, Wynton moved to New York to attend Juilliard school. In the years to follow, his career took off and Wynton performed with Sarah Vaughan, Dizzy Gillespie, Sweets Edison, Clark Terry, John Lewis, Sonny Rollins, Ron Carter, Herbie Hancock, Tony Williams and many other jazz legends. He has performed and created a wide range of music from quartets to big bands and symphony orchestras. In 1983, he became the only musician in history to win both Grammy Awards in jazz and classical music. He has sold seven million copies of his recordings worldwide and he has toured in more than 30 countries.
