Xabier Alonso Olano (born November 25, 1981) is a former professional footballer who played as a center or defensive midfielder in Spain. He is the manager of Real Sociedad B of the Segunda División. Real Sociedad, the main team in Alonso's home province of Gipuzkoa, was where he began his career. After a brief loan spell at Eibar, he was named Real Sociedad captain by then-manager John Toshack. In a transfer for around £30 million, he moved to Real Madrid for the start of the 2009–10 season. He was hired on a two-year contract by German club Bayern Munich after five seasons at Madrid, where he won a league title in 2012 and the Champions League in 2014.
