Y La Bamba is an American indie folk-pop band started by Luz Elena Mendoza in Portland, Oregon in 2008. The band combines sounds from Mexican folk music, American folk rock and indie pop. Mendoza initially sought out other band members to perform with, but the band turned into collaborations with other musicians and friends and regularly features musicians like Mike Kitson, Sean Flinn, and Eric Shrapel. Their debut album was released in 2008 titled Alida St. and in 2009 were signed to the label Tender Loving Empire. They released their next three albums under the label titled Lupon in 2011, Court The Storm in 2012, and Ojos Del Sol in 2016. The group performs internationally with artists like Thao & the Get Down Stay Down, DeVotchKa, and The Lumineers. They also continue to regularly perform in the Portland area where they started.
