Yael Naim is a French-Israeli pop singer of Tunisian and Jewish descent. She was born in 1978 in Paris, and moved with her family to Tel-Aviv at a young age. Some early performances include her singing with the backing band of jazz legend Wynton Marsalis and an appearance at a charity event with her band Anti Collision that got her noticed by EMI records. She moved to the United States in 2001 to record her debut album “In a Man’s Womb”, to moderate success. Naim remained to do live work until 2014 when she collaborated with David Donatien to release her eponymous second solo album. This album, sung in Hebrew, English, and French, came out in 2007 to high critical acclaim and peaked at number 40 in Switzerland and number 11 in France. Naim’s popularity rose when her single “New Soul” was used for a 2008 Mac advertisement. As an actress, Naim has taken part in a French film version of the Ten Commandments.
