Yemi Eberechi Alade was born on March 13, 1989 in Ondo State, Nigeria, Africa. Yemi is an Afro-pop and R&B singer and songwriter from Nigeria who gained recognition after winning the Peak Talent Show in 2009. She is best known for her hit “Johnny” that was produced by Selebobo and broke records becoming an international hit and one of the best songs of 2013. When interviewed by the Daily Post in November 2014, Yemi said “If you don’t move forward, you would continue to stay down.” She expressed how happy she was to have released a song that people are happy to listen to instead of crying and feeling bad. She has performed on stages around the world and sang the opening song for the 2013 Headies Awards often called the Nigerian Grammys. In 2014, Yemi created a music video for “Johnny” with Clarence Peters who is an award-winning cinematographer. The video was released in March 2014 and now had more than 32 million YouTube views by December 2015. Yemi released her debut album October 2014 called King of Queens. Her second album was released in March 2016 entitled Mama Africa.
