Yolanda Adams is an American gospel singer, actress, radio host and record producer born in Houston, Texas on August 27, 1961. She is known as the Queen of Contemporary Gospel Music and the First Lady of Modern Gospel. Her albums have sold over 4.5 million copies in the United states and 8 million worldwide. She initially was a school teacher but gave up teaching to pursue singing full-time. In 1987 she released her debut album Just as I Am with the label Sound of Gospel. She went on to release 10 more studio albums with several different labels, including Through the Storm, Save the World, More Than a Melody, Songs from the Heart, Mountain High… Valley Low, Christmas With Yolanda Adams, Believe, Day By Day, What a Wonderful Time, and Becoming. Throughout her career she has been nominated for numerous awards and has won five Grammy Awards, sixteen Stellar Gospel Music Awards, five BET Awards and many more. In 2010 she released her first book Points of Power, a Christian book about the benefits of living a life dedicated to God.
