Yusra Mardini Bio
Yusra Mardini is a Syrian retired professional swimmer who competed in the 200 m and 400 m freestyle events. She was born in Darayya, Damascus, Syria, on March 5, 1998.
Yusra has represented Syria in numerous international swimming competitions, including the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics, the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics, and the FINA World Swimming Championships. Yusra has since become known for her work with Syrian refugees, being a refugee herself. Her refugee story was told in the book Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls which was written by Elena Favilli and Francesca Cavallo.
