Zapp is an American funk band that debuted in Ohio in 1977. Originally comprised of the brothers Roger Troutman, Larry Troutman, Lester Troutman and Terry Troutman, other members included Gregory Jackson, Bobby Glover, Sherman Fleetwood, Jerome Derrickson, Janetta Boyce and Eddie Barber. Gaining a record deal with Warner Brothers their debut album Zapp gained instant recognition.
With six studio albums, three of their albums, Zapp, Zapp II and The New Zapp IV U all went to US Gold. Their earlier music was only released in CD and cassette and has recently been re-released in digital formats. They are currently amongst the most highly sampled bands used by modern musicians, known for their use of the talk box their sound was unique and defined.
