Smino, born Christopher Smith Jr. on October 2nd, 1991 in St. Louis Missouri, is an American rapper that broke into the local music scene in St. Louis under the name “C.Smi.” Raised in a family of musicians, he was exposed early on to the sounds of jazz, blues, hip-hop, and gospel music.
Upon his graduation from high school, Smino moved to Chicago where he was introduced by his cousin, singer and producer Drea Smith, to local artists and the music scene of the city. Through these meetings Smino eventually met and linked up with his current musical engineer and manager Chris “Classik” Inumerable.
Smino released his first solo EP on October 2nd, 2015, entitled S!CK S!CK S!CK. The follow up to this EP came on December 11th, 2015 with the EP Blkjuptr. Smino achieved some critical acclaim with the singles “Oxygen” and “Blkjuptr” peaking on 1 Chart-Billboard Twitter Emerging Artists at 48 and 35 respectively. On March 14th, 2017 Smino released his debut album Blkswn, which included guest appearances by Ravyn Lenae, NoName, Jay2, and Drea Smith. The single “Anita” peaked at the number 5 spot on 1 Chart-Billboard Twitter Emerging Artists after 4 weeks on the charts.
