Marianne Williamson (born July 8, 1952 in Houston, Texas) is a bestselling author, lecturer, political activist, and spiritual thought leader most renowned as a Democratic candidate for president of the United States in 2020.
Williamson studied theater and philosophy for two years at Pomona College in Claremont, California, dropping out her junior year. In 1983, she began lecturing on "A Course in Miracles." In 1989, Williamson founded Project Angel Food, a non-profit meal delivery service that delivers meals to ill and dying homebound patients. In 1992, she published her first book, "A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of A Course in Miracles,". A quote from her book, A Return to Love, “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure…” is considered an anthem for a contemporary generation of seekers.
In 2004, Williamson co-founded The Peace Alliance, a non-profit grassroots education and advocacy organization focused on increasing U.S. governmental support of peace-building approaches to domestic and international conflicts. In 2014, she ran as an Independent candidate for California's 33rd congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives. In 2021, Williamson launched MarianneWilliamson.Substack.com. Williamson announced her candidacy for the 2024 Democratic presidential primary on February 23, 2023.
