Toni Collette Bio

Toni Collette is an Australian movie, television and stage actress, singer and songwriter. She was born on the 1st of November, 1972, in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. She studied at the National Institute of Dramatic Art in the early 1990s. While studying drama, she made her stage debut in “Uncle Vanya” directed by Neil Armfield, before joining the Sydney Theatre Company. A few months later, she made her television debut in a drama series “A Country Practice”. She made her film debut in 1992, in the movie “Spotswood” starring Anthony Hopkins, and for her performance she earned an AACTA Award nomination, for Best Supporting Actress. She got her first lead role in the same year, in the movie “Muriel’s Wedding”. The movie was a success and she received her first Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actress. Since then, she has acted in more than 30 movies including “Clockwatchers”, “Diana & Me”, “The Sixth Sense” and “Shaft”. Through her career, Collette has received several awards, including a Golden Globe Awards, a Primetime Emmy Awards and a Screen Actors Guild Awards.
