Originating from Ottawa, Canada, is singer Alanis Morissette, who was born on June 1, 1974. Her first demo was recorded and released in 1985, entitled “Fate Stay With me”, which she recorded in Toronto. In the early 1990s, she was signed to MCA Records Canada, through which she released her debut album Alanis in 1991. The album ultimately went Platinum, and she followed it with her second album Now Is the Time in 1992, which did not do as well as her debut. Alanis Morissette later signed with Maverick Records and released the album Jagged Little Pill in 1995, featuring the popular first single “You Oughta Know”. The most successful single, however, was “Ironic”, and her album wound up selling 33 million copies internationally. “Ironic” won Single of the Year in 1997 at the Juno Awards, and was nominated for two Grammys.
Alanis Morissette would later release Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie in 1998, Under Rug Swept in 2002, So-Called Chaos in 2004, Flavors of Entanglement in 2008, and Havoc and Bright Lights in 2012.
