Gene Hackman Bio

Eugene Allen ‘Gene’ Hackman was born on January 30, 1930 in San Bernardino, California. He first came to prominence in Bonny and Clyde (1967) for which he received an Oscar nomination. He went on to win an Academy Award for his performance in crime thriller The French Connection (1971).

Hackman was just one of many stars to feature in war epic A Bridge Too Far (1977). Co-stars included Michael Caine, Sean Connery and Anthony Hopkins. He kept busy throughout the 80s starring in movies such as Hoosier (1986) and No Way Out (1987).He gained his second Oscar win for his portrayal of Little Bill Daggett in the Clint Eastwood directed western, Unforgiven (1992).

Hackman has also taken on comedic roles in movies such as Heartbreakers (2001) and The Royal Tenenbaums (2001), a role for which he won a Golden Globe award. In 2004, Hackman announced that he was thinking of retiring from acting, something he went on to confirm in 2008.
