The Rumjacks is an Australian rock band that was formed in 2008 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The founding members of the band were lead singer Frankie McLaughlin and bassist Johnny McKelvey. The group later expanded to include Adam Kenny (mandolin, banjo, bouzouki, vocals), Anthony Matters (drums, vocals), Pietro Della Sala (drums), Mike Rivkees (lead vocals).
Within a year of the band’s formation, they dropped their debut EP Hung, Drawn & Portered in 2009. The second EP Sound as a Pound followed in the same year. In 2010 their debut full-length album Gangs of New Holland dropped and one of the album’s singles (An Irish Pub Song) went viral, racking up over 20 million views online. The band’s fame blew up and they embarked on tours across Australia and Europe.
The band was soon sharing stages with the likes of Dropkick Murphys, Gogol Bordello, The Aggrolites, and the U.K. Subs, and in February 2015 the band released their second album, Sober & Godless. Their third album Sleepin’ Rough followed in August the next year. In October 2018, they celebrated their 10-year anniversary with the LP Saints Preserve Us.
