DJ 3LAU was born Justin David Blau on January 9, 1991, in Syosset, New York. He taught himself how to play piano when he was just five years old, and ever since has been dedicated to making and producing music. After taking a vacation trip to Sweden, 3LAU was introduced to electronica music, and when he came back to Washington University in St. Louis, he began to make his own mashups to perform. In 2011, he released two bootleg singles entitled “Girls Who Save the World” and “All Night Long”.
Shortly after, he entered a competition that had him remix Tiesto’s song “Work Hard, Play Hard”. He won the contest as well as much recognition, and with the release of another bootleg “Dance Floor Filth”, 3LAU found himself in one of the top 10 slots on the Beatport & Hype Machine chart. He is commended for his flawless transitions during mashups and the energy that he brings to the dance floor when he performs in clubs. Many of his proceeds from touring go to the Pencils of Promise non-profit organization, which builds schools in developing countries.
