The Kills Bio
The Kills are a British-American indie rock band formed in England in 2000. The band consists of American singer Alison Mosshart, born on November 23rd, 1978 in Vero Beach, Florida, and English guitar player Jamie Hince, born James William Hince on December 19th, 1968. Before settling on the name The Kills, the duo performed under the moniker VV and Hotel.
The duo recorded and released their debut EP Black Rooster on the indie label Domino Records in 2002, they were picked up for distribution by Steve Aoki’s label Dim Mak Records in the U.S. The duo cite bands such as Captain Beefheart, PJ Harvey, LCD Soundsystem, The Velvet Underground, The Fall, Patti Smith, and Royal Trux as their main musical influences.
The Kills then embarked on a international tour and returned to London briefly in 2003 to record their debut album, Keep on Your Mean Side, in just under two weeks. In 2005 they released their second studio album on Domino Records entitled No Wow. The debut single, “The Good Ones,” peaked at number 23 on the UK Singles Charts. The Kills continued to release records at a steady pace with 2008’s Midnight Bloom, 2011’s Blood Pressures, and 2016’s Ash & Ice.
