Jon Secada Bio
Jon Secada is a Cuban American and Afro-Cuban singer and songwriter born in Havana, Cuba on October 4, 1961. He decided to pursue a music career after performing in A Christmas Carol in high school. In 1983 he received a Bachelor of Music and in 1986 received a Master of Music from the Frost School of Music. Secada was a teacher at Miami Dade College from 1986 to 1991. In 1991 he co-wrote and was a backup singer for Gloria Estefan’s song “Coming Out of the Dark.” Secada released his debut studio album in 1992 self-titled Jon Secada. The album sold over 7 million copies worldwide. He has since released the albums Heart, Soul & a Voice, Amor, Secada, Better Part of Me, The Gift, Amanecer, Same Dream, A Christmas Fiesta, Expressions, Classics, Otra Vez, Navidad, and To Beny Moré With Love. He has also released five compilation albums. In 1995 he performed on Broadway in the musical Grease. Secada was a judge on Latin American Idol for the fourth season. Throughout his career he has been nominated for numerous awards and has won two Grammy Awards, a Latin Grammy Award, four BMI Pop Awards and more.
