Montserrat Caballé Bio

Montserrat Caballe, born as Maria de Montserrat Vivana Concepcion I Folch, on April 12, 1993, in Barcelona, Spain, was a famous operatic soprano. She made her debut appearance in 1956 as Mimi in Puccini’s La Boheme, which would later help her earn much greater roles. Montserrat Caballe was one of the few Spanish opera singers who have sung in German, as she had done singing a repertoire that included Strauss which helped her get a spot at the Bremen Opera. She is best known for singing the works of Verdi, Rossini, Mozart, Bellini, and Donizetti. But Montserrat Caballe became especially famous for her collaboration with the well-known Freddie Mercury, the lead vocalist of the British rock band Queen. At the request of the IOC, Barcelona, they recorded a duet that later became the official theme song for the 1992 Olympic Games.
