Anil Kapoor was born on December 24, 1956 in Bombay, India. His first cameo was in the film Umesh Mehra in 1979, and a year later, he had a lead role in Vamsa Vruksham. In 1983, he starred in Pallavi Anu Pallavi and received his first Filmfare Award for his supporting role in 1984’s Mashaal. He later earned another Filmfare nomination, this time for Best Actor, for his work on 1985’s Meri Jung. In 1986, he starred in the year’s biggest hit, Karma, later appearing in Insaaf Ki Awaaz and Chameli Ki Shaadi, a comedy.

Kapoor again starred in the year’s biggest hit with his role in 1987’s Mr. India, which granted him superstar status. He earned his first Filmfare Award for Tezaab in 1988. Though he starred in a few flops, he continued to receive critical acclaim for his role in 1989’s Eeshwar. In 1990, he starred as twin brothers in Kishen Kanhaiya and had leading box office roles in Ghar Ho To Aisa and Awaargi.

After a short career lag, he had several hits in a row in the late 1990s with Loafer, Deewana Mastana, Biwi No. 1 and Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain. He had a role in the English-language film Slumdog Millionaire in 2008. He also starred in the eighth season of the television series 24 in 2010.
