Shakira Marshall, better known by her stage name Kira Divine, comes from Queens, in New York. Kira was born in the USA, but she is of Guayana descent. This talented woman is a singer, choreographer, dancer, artist, actress, and writer. Kira was named after the Guayanian actress Shakira Baksh because her parents dreamt about their daughter following in her footsteps.
At only 4 years of age, Kira started with her professional training in various genres of music and dance types like tap, hip-hop, jazz, modern music, ballet, afro-caribbean, and traditional West African music. Kira studied at the SUNY Purchase College where she received her B.A. in Media, Society and the Arts.
In 2009, Kira made her debut on the Broadway stage with the musical FELA!. This musical won a Tony Award. In 2011, Kira toured with the rest of the Broadway cast to Nigeria to perform the musical there, actress Michelle Williams was on this tour as well. Kira released her debut album Divinity in 2021.
