Kc and The Sunshine Band are an American funk and disco band formed by Harry Wayne Casey, a record store employee and part timer at TK records in Hialeah, Florida in 1973. KC originally called the band, “KC and The Sunshine Junkanoo Band,” as he used studio musicians and a local Junkanoo band called the Miami Junkanoo Band. He was then introduced to Richard Finch who was doing Engineering works for TK. The initial members of the group were just Casey and Finch, but then they added guitarist Jerome Smith and drummer Robert Johnson. They released many hits, which were received quite well by U.S R&B chart.
In 1981, Finch and Casey decided to end their partnership. After two years, the band produced two more albums that brought very little success. In 1982, they released the song “Give It Up,” which brought success in the U.K. On July 28, 2000 Jerome Smith passed away. In 2001 the band made a brief comeback by release of “I Will Be There For You.” Their best songs include, “That’s The Way I like It,” “I’m Your Boogie Man,” “Get Down Tonight,” among others.
