When she was 12, she was cast in her first film. Her first breakthrough role was in the film, Blue Is The Warmest Color, where she played one of the main characters, Adèle. This film and Exarchopoulos were met with critical acclaim. She was nominated and won several awards, the most prestigious being the Palme d’Or for Best Film at the Cannes Festival.
