Alfonso Ribeiro Bio

Aflonso Ribeiro was born on September 21, 1971 in the Bronx, New York. Ribeiro has been acting since he was 8 but it wasn’t until he was 12 in 1983 when he got his first big break after being cast as the lead for the Broadway Musical Tap Dance Kid. The role earned him a nomination for the Outer Critics Circle Award. Alfonso’s new found fame landed him several big commercial gigs that highlighted his dancing skills, and none so more notable than his Pepsi commercial with the king of Pop himself, Michael Jackson.
Ribeiro was further thrust into the limelight when landed the role of Carlton Banks alongside Will Smith in the hit comedy series Fresh Prince of Bel Air from 1990-1996. He immortalized himself in American pop-culture with his character’s trademark dance known simply as “the Carlton.” Since the end of the show, Ribeiro remained in the fringes of the limelight making the occasional TV appearances. He was announced as a celebrity competitor for Dancing with the Stars season 19. Most recently, he took over the role of host for America’s Funniest Home Videos from Tom Bergeron in 2015.
