Angela Maria Hartnett (born September 5, 1968 in Kent, England) is a high-profile Chef, restaurateur, television personality, and cookbook author who has appeared on numerous television shows including Hell's Kitchen and Top Chef UK.
Prior to becoming a chef, Angela went to Italy to work as a nanny for a year. While studying for a degree in history from Cambridge Polytechnic, Angela worked for a hotel in Cambridge and discovered her passion for cooking. She began her cooking training at the Sandy Lane Hotel in Barbados. In 1994, she returned to the UK, and worked with Ramsay for a while at Zafferano and L'Oranger, before joining Wareing as his sous chef at Petrus, and then returning to help Gordon Ramsay launch Verre in Dubai. She opened her own two restaurants at The Connaught Hotel in London in 2002.
In 2003, Angela won the 'Best Newcomer Award' and the Square Meal Guides’ BMW Best New Restaurant award for the two restaurants at The Connaught. In 2004, she earned her first Michelin star. In 2007, she was awarded an MBE for Services to the Hospitality Industry. She also opened Cielo, a Ramsay Group restaurant in Boca Raton.
Angela made her first television appearance in the first series of ITV1's Hell's Kitchen. In 2015, she took part in the final episode, and oversaw the final task for MasterChef UK. She also presented Tomorrow’s Food alongside Dara Ó Briain, Chris Bavin and Dr Shini Somara from January to March 2016.
