Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning blogger born on 15th August 1983, in Ontario, Canada. She is the founder of the education non-profit website Feminist Frequency. She is committed to highlighting issues related to the harassment of women and marginalized groups. Anita has partnered with ‘Bitch’ magazine and wanted to release a six-video series covering Women in Refrigerators, the Smurfette, and Pixie Dream Girl. The series was to be launched in 2012, but she decided to raise funds first.
The first video was released on 7th March 2013. Anita has spoken at different high-profile conferences, including XOXO Festival, the United Nations’ Broadband Working Group on Gender, and TEDxWomen. In 2013, she won the Honorary Award from the National Academy of Video Game Trade Reviewers for her work on the video “Damsel in Distress”. In 2015, she was listed in Cosmopiltan’s “50 Most Fascinating People on the Internet”.
