Arooj Aftab is an award-winning Pakistani singer, songwriter, and director who performs jazz and neo-Sufi music. She was born in Lahore, Pakistan, on March 11, 1985. Arooj began her music career in the mid-2000s, and she became famous in 2011 when she was included in NPR’s list of 100 Composers Under 40. In 2014, she released her debut studio project Bird Under Water, too much critical and commercial success. Her discography includes Mehram, Mohabbat, Last Night, Baghon Main, and the albums Siren Islands, Vulture Prince, and Backbone. Arooj’s music was featured in the album Minimalism, Vl. 4 alongside fellow artists Pawas, Wyro, Shosho, and Rob Pearson. She won a Grammy Award for Best Global Music Performance.
