Betty White Bio

Betty White is an American actress and comedian born in Oak Park, Illinois on January 17, 1922. She has had the longest television career of any female entertainer spanning 80 years. She is known for her roles in in shows like The Golden Girls, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and Hot in Cleveland. After graduating from high school in 1939 she started her acting career singing songs from The Merry Widow on an experimental Los Angeles channel. She would also act at the Bliss Hayden Little Theater. She put her career on hold during World War II and took part in the American Women’s Voluntary Services. After the war she went back to acting, appearing on game shows, and doing radio shows. She has had roles in a number of films and television shows over the course of her career, including The Millionaire, Date with the Angels, To Tell the Truth, Match Game, The Odd Couple, The Story of Us, Tom Sawyer, Bringing Down the House, The Proposal, Fame, Hotel, Another World, Empty Nest The Lionhearts, Noddy, and many more. She has also published several books like Betty White in Person, Together: A Novel of Shared Vision, Betty & Friends: My Life at the Zoo, and others. Throughout her career she has been nominated for numerous awards and has won Eight Emmy Awards, three Screen Actors Guild Awards, three American Comedy Awards, a Grammy Award and more. In 1995 she was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
