Carl Reiner Bio

Carl Reiner was born on March 20,1922 in the Bronx, New York. His acting began in 1944 while he was in the Air Force during World War 2. He traveled to Hawaii, Iwo Jima, Saipan, and Guam throughout the next couple of years and gave shows to the troops until his discharge in 1946. For the next four years, Reiner would play in several Broadway musicals including the lead role in Call Me Mister. In 1950, he joined the cast of Sid Caesar’s Your Show of Shows and later the Caesar’s Hour. He also worked with Mel Brooks and Neil Simon writing and performing.

In the 1960s, began one his best-known creations titled The Dick Van Dyke Show where he would write, act, produce for the show. The show became incredibly successful receiving many awards through the show’s run (1961-1966). Later in his career, he and Mel Brooks created the act 2000 Year Old Man on the Steve Allen show which had great success. In 2000, Carl Reiner received the Mark Twain prize for American humor. He later began playing Saul Bloom in the remake of the Oceans’ trilogy (2001, 2004, 2007).
