Carlos Saldanha Bio

Carlos Saldanha was born on January 24, 1965 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He is best known as a director of animated films. He has a background in computer science but always loved drawing and cartoons, so he finally moved to New York in 1991. This was a fortunate move because he soon discovered the beauty of combining drawing and cartooning with the science of computer generated animation. He enrolled in the School of Visual Arts in New York and eventually graduated with a Masters degree in Computer Art. During this time, he made and released two animated shorts, which included The Adventures of Korky, the Corkscrew (1992) and Time For Love (1993). These short films have been screened around the world at animation film fests. His animating collaboration began in 1997 with A Simple Wish and Bunny (1998) before moving on to bigger projects. His first big break came with the wildly popular Ice Age (2002) which he co-directed. The rest of the Ice Age series followed, along with other favorites like Rio (2011) and the following sequels. He has been nominated for several awards, including a BAFTA Award and an Academy Award.
