Colin Firth was born on September 10, 1960 in Grayshott, England. He decided at a young age to become an actor and after completing his sixth form, he joined the National Youth Theatre and went on to study at the Drama Centre London. He was recognized as one of the rising Brit Pack stars for his work in plays like Hamlet and Another Country in 1983 and 1984. He starred in Lost Empires in 1986 and Tumbledown in 1988. He became a household name after his role in the 1995 television adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. In 2001, he costarred in Bridget Jones’s Diary and its 2004 sequel. He also had roles in The English Patient, Shakespeare in Love, Relative Values and The Importance of Being Earnest. He earned a Primetime Emmy nomination for his role in Conspiracy (2001).

2003 saw Firth successfully costar in the ensemble film Love Actually. He also played Johannes Vermeer in Girl with a Pearl Earring, which earned several awards. He starred in Nanny McPhee in 2005, and then he starred in Where the Truth Lies, Then She Found Me, The Last Legion and When Did You Last See Your Father? His role in 2008’s film adaptation of Mamma Mia earned him praise. Firth’s 2010 role in The King’s Speech earned him a Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild, BAFTA and Academy Award. He also starred in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Gambit and a third and fourth sequel to the Bridget Jones movies. He had a leading role in Kingsman: The Secret Service in 2015 and will appear in its 2017 sequel.
